It is not easy to be completely honest in every relationship. In your friendships, romantic relationships, work relationships, you often want to “tell it like it is” but you don’t want to hurt the person’s feelings, make them mad at you, or potentially jeopardize your job. Amelia Diamond of Man Repeller spoke to author and therapist Ilene Fishman on her beliefs on honesty, her aswer? “Honesty is an art.” Her explanation is that the better you know yourself, the more likely you are to express yourself honestly. She also provided a guide on how to practice “tactful” honesty, for example, understanding your own feelings, choosing the most respectful approach to the situation, expressing your own vulnerability, being open to the persons response, not ignoring your own emotions. All of these tips will help you communicate honestly. As Fishman says, “It’s an art, and sometimes artistic expression is difficult.” For the full article, visit MAN REPELLER.
